"The Anatomy of the Aeroplane."
"Th problem of providing a strong retractable undercarriage for the giant bombers of to-day is a very difficult one. In the Short Stirling the wheels are housed in the nacelles or fairing behind the engines and here one of the great wheels is being tested as it rises on a sort of cradle into its retracted position. Note the size of the wheels compared with the airmen."
