Description

"The Anatomy of the Aeroplane."

"The controls of a large aeroplane are essentially similar but are often reproduced in duplicate when a second pilot is necessary. This is the cockpit of a Short Stirling bomber and the same essential mechanisms are visible. Two control columns stand out prominently; for convenience a wheel operates the ailerons instead of the control column being moved forward from left to right. It is still however, moved backwards and forwards to dive and climb. The large battery of knobs in the centre of the picture are the engine throttles easily accessible to either pilot. Note the rudder bars behind each column."
