"The Anatomy of the Aeroplane."
"Here is the same machine dismembered. The aeroplane is basically a body (or fuselage as it is called) supported by wings and pulled throught he air by one or more propellers. In order to maintain stability and effect control, the tail unit is added to the end of the fuselage. It will be seen from this drawing that the Chief weights, especially of petrol and bombs which disappear during flight are concentrated as near the centre of gravity as possible so as not to disturb the balance of the machine. Although large aeroplanes have a number of engines and look different from the smaller types the principles are the same as regards their ability to fly and manoeuvre." 1886
