Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick, partly in cipher: he is working to have Contades' letters put into a state fit to show the king, so that he may receive orders on what use to make of them at the imperial diet and among the German princes. He congratulates him on the Prussian victory in Saxony. News from America has been delayed by contrary winds. The French are preparing an invasion, but he is confident of the superiority of the fleet. Mr. Keith reports from St Petersburg the possibility of a peace between Russia and Prussia. Dated at Whitehall. ff. 9-11
