Description

Case of Rorey, an enslaved African at the Observatory Plantation charged with murder of Peter, an enslaved African at Belmont Plantation; Transmits letter from Mr. Ninian Home, a member of Council, and Mr. John Castles, a Member of the Assembly of Grenada, before whom, as Justices of the Peace, Mathew writes a 'Negro belonging to Colonel Harry Gordon' was found guilty of murder; they recommend him as an object of mercy; recommended by 'several other very respectable Gentlemen in the Island'; Mathew recommends mercy due to 'good character he is represented to have always maintained; and having frequently rendered Services to the Colony, by his Activity & Vigilence in suppressing the Runaway Negroes.'
