Description

Forwards Bills to Secretary of State for Royal Assent [not in item], with 3 enclosures and discussion on the situation in Tobago regarding Barracks, the Assembly, Frigate and Cutter for the protection of Tobago which were to be sent out many months before and that have not arrived, plan if attacked, hospitals and troops, and appointments to the Council; An Act for Raising a Sum of Money and for Appropriating the Balances of Former Taxes to Pay the Public Debts of this Colony, to Extend, Alter, and repair the Public Roads, to Defray the Expenses incurred in Exacting Batteries and for other Necessary Purposes; An Act to Appoint Proper Persons to Direct and Superintend the repairs, Alterations and Improvements of the Public Roads in this Island, and to Apply Two Several Sums of Money Appropriated for the Above Purposes by an Act of this Colony intitled An Act for Raising a Sum of Money and for Appropriating the Balances of Former Taxes to Pay the Public Debts of this Colony, to Extend, Alter, and repair the Public Roads, to Defray the Expenses incurred in Exacting Batteries and for other Necessary Purposes; An Act to Provide for the Establishment of Clergymen of the Church of England in this Island; An Act to Empower the Public Treasurer of this Island to Appoint a Deputy in Case of a Necessary Temporary Absence from the Island, & to Ascertain a Reasonable Recompense to the Present Treasurer for the Time he has Acted in that Office as the Commissions allowed him by the Money Bill hitherto Passed have proved Inadequate to the Increased Trouble Thereof; enclosures: Address from the Assembly; Address from the Assembly presented at a meeting of the Council; letter from Hospital Surgeon William Gardiner, enclosing the Returns of the Sick of His Majesty' Troops [Return not in item]. George Ferguson, Lieutenant Governor of Tobago, Tobago No. 7, Folios 71 - 80.
