Description

Various subjects including: acknowledges letter from Mr. Knox, inclosing the Act to protect the produce of Grenada in neutral vessels; thinks it is a very liberal act, but removing the hardships which the British suffer in the French islands will not make the inhabitants of 'His Majesty's Islands' more ready to defend themselves; reports that he has been informed from Grenada that when the Marquis D'Bouille was there some time ago he intended to make an attempt upon this Island, but after receiving intelligence that George Rodney was off Guadeloupe, he immediately left Grenada and returned to Martinico [Martinique]; states that Tobago is at great risk if attacked; council did not pass Money Bill, will suspend members of council which he formerly mentioned to Secretary of State; troops have been extremely sickly; question of the authority of the governor over the military; wants the Secretary of State to explain to General Vaughan that if Grenada should be retaken Ferguson will take the command there, being Lieutenant Governor of Tobago, until a Governor is appointed.
