Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick: the king hopes that the prince's representations to the king of Prussia [on his cavalry] will be successful. Difficult march of the duke of Marlborough. He has not heard whether the Scottish [Campbell's] dragoons have arrived at Emden. There are already 22,000 French prisoners in Britain, and more are expected from Louisburg. The king awaits with impatience the resolution of the prince's negotiations with the landgrave of Hesse. Dated at Whitehall. PS. that the king has appointed the duke of Marlborough general of infantry. ff. 41-43
