Nature of request
Llywelyn, Prince of Wales, makes eight requests:1) He asks the King to restore those of their lands that are in his mercy to his nephews, Howel son of Rhys Cric and Llywelyn, who stood as traitors because they did not do homage to him.2) He asks for their lands to be restored to certain of his men who hold of Griffith ap Wenni, according to the form of peace.3) He asks for restoration of their lands to his men Iorwerth son of Ivor and Blethin son of Pill, according to the form of peace.4) He requests justice concerning the persons, horses and arms delivered by him at the King's command.5) He requests the release of a man of Howel son of Rhys Cric, imprisoned at Cardigan with letters of safe-conduct from the King, who is still imprisoned despite the King ordering his release.6) He requests that certain thieves, fugitives at Cardigan, who committed homicides and robberies in his land, and have been received in the King's land, should not be supported.7) He requests that justice may be done on the matter of certain men from the King's land who unjustly took pledges from his men of Merioneth.8) He asks for restoration of the lands of one of his men, who held lands at Cedewain.
Nature of endorsement
[On face, to first] Nothing may be done except with the good will of Rhys son of Meredoc, because if his wishes were not granted, the King would be doing an injustice.[To second] Let it be said to the father and the son that they shall do etc., otherwise the King will act according to the form [of peace].[To the fifth] The King will send to make inquiries etc., and after that etc. R. de Brogton.[To the sixth] It is ordered that they should not be supported.[To the seventh] Let it be ordered as in the other instances etc.[To the eighth] Eynon ap David Seis. The King will have inquiries made, and then etc.[On dorse] With regard to Llywelyn, the nephew etc., the King wishes to retain his land as forfeited to him . . . [satisfaction] of the Prince, the King will admit him to his peace, provided that the land may remain to him . . . for ever.
