Description

Geoffrey Larblaster.
Name(s)
Larblaster, Geoffrey
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Geoffrey Larblaster states that he brought an assize of novel disseisin against Matthew Fitz John and Thomas de Ralegh, complaining that they had disseised him of the right of wardship of all the animals taken in Devon, of which he and his ancestors had been seised from time immemorial. Thomas de Ralegh, now Sheriff of Devon, answered that there should be no assize, as he found the King seised of this wardship when he entered office - whereas Geoffrey claims that the King was never seised of it. Geoffrey requests benefit of the first statute of Westminster, providing a remedy for those disseised by the King's servants, but the justices refuse to hold the assize. Geoffrey requests a special writ to the justices to hold the assize, and then to proceed to judgment, notwithstanding that the Sheriff is a party, as they will do nothing for a writ of Chancery.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue in Chancery to have the justices ordered to proceed as swiftly as possible, according to the law and custom etc.
