Nature of request
Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, states that the King gave him the island of Cumbrae, together with the other lands and tenements belonging to James, formerly Steward of Scotland, and that, while that island used to pay £20 annually to Alexander III during his lifetime, John Balliol released and quitclaimed this sum to James. It is now being demanded of Henry, and he asks the King that he might hold the island quit of this £20, as James held it in the time of John Balliol.

Coram rege.Although it is a matter of demesnes, nevertheless the King wills that the Earl hold that island quit of the annual £20, at the King's pleasure.
