Date
[? c. 1324]
Description
Petitioners
Good people of London.
Addressees
[Not specified]
Nature of request
The petitioners complain about taverners from Southwark and other foreign towns who buy wines in London at a higher price than the assize that has been proclaimed, in expectation of selling them outside the city, where there is no assize, at their pleasure. They ask that a reasonable price might be established in other towns with relation to the price in London, allowing for the costs of transporting the wines.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio. These petitions are to be sent before the Chancellor and Treasurer with orders that they, when they have called those who are to be called on this matter, are further to do what is just.
Places mentioned
Southwark, [Surrey]
London.
Note
No date given on the guard- probably later Edward II from the hand. This is obviously the second or later of a group of petitions on one piece of parchment. It has been dated to '? c. 1324' on the grounds that it might have been attached to SC 8/120/5985 and SC 8/120/5991B.
