John le Veys, merchant of Bristol, and Catherine his wife state that in the twenty-first year of the King's father, Thomas Cantok, formerly Chancellor of Ireland, and John, his brother and lieutenant, took £150 worth of merchandise from Terry de la Bruere, merchant of Flanders, and then husband of Catherine and lord and master of John, by reason of their office. However, they did not pay him on the day appointed for this, but gave him another day, and before then the goods and merchandise of alien merchants in Ireland had been taken into the King's hand because of his war with the King of France. After this day Thomas and John said that the money was now the King's and that they would only pay him: but they never paid him either. John and Catherine acknowledge the King's right to the money, and ask him to levy it from Roger Cantok, brother and heir of Thomas and John, and to give them some consideration at his pleasure. They ask that this petition might be sent to the Treasurer, so that he can summon Roger to answer on this, to them and to the King.
