Nature of request
The petitioners state that the King's father granted to them by his charter that they would be free of all manner of tallages, and that the present King likewise granted to them, by his charter, that they would be quit of all manner of aids, prestations and contributions; but that the Keeper of the Exchanges has now been given a commission to assess their goods and chattels for the sixth granted to the King at York on 2 December in the sixteenth year of his reign, although they were not present then and have not assented. They ask that this commission might be repealed, and that they might have their former estate.
Nature of endorsement
Coram domino rege, because it is his place to remember if the moneyers mentioned here were present at the granting of the sixth and gave their assent to it or not.They are to show their charter to the Chancellor, who is to inform the King, so that the King can speak his will on it.
