Nature of request
The petitioners seek recovery of their ancient right to control the fisheries between the rivers Thames and Medway forever, as confirmed by various charters and by the king, for the honour and profit of the king and all the commonality and for the safety of the said rivers. At Neuport's suggestion the king has granted him control of the said fisheries by letters of the privy seal to the mayor, aldermen and sheriffs of the city.
Nature of endorsement
Let the charters be shown before the king's council and the parties called there and hearing their arguments, let the business be shown to the king, and let justice be done.
