Note (Additional information about the record)
- Dated on the guard to either?1376 with reference to C 49/43/10, or?1374, with reference to CPR 1374-7, pp.20-1. However the latter reference seems unconnected, and the first is both uncertain (the document is incomplete and largely illegible) and dates to the middle of a truce in the war. It seems more likely that this petition refers to the events of the 1370 campaign, when Knolles was (unusually given his lowly social status) given joint command of the expedition (see article in DNB).
