- The petitioners state that they have built a new stone bridge over the River Medway at Rochester at their own expense, to replace the decayed old bridge, and propose a way of dividing up maintenance of this new bridge between the towns, vills and other places that used to maintain the old bridge.

Note (Additional information about the record)
- SC 8/86/4255, which also makes provisions for the new bridge at Rochester, can be dated to 1394-5 by CPR 1391-6, p.550. This petition does not seem to be the petition from Knolles and Cobeham presented to the previous parliament which is mentioned there (which would seem to be SC 8/85/4233), but is probably contemporary or slightly earlier. See the notes to SC 8/86/4256 for indications that it may be contemporary.For discussion of the places mentioned here, taken from another source (dated 975 AD), see Wallenberg, Kentish Place Names (Uppsala, 1931), pp.302-3, where he discusses possibilities for the unidentified places.
