Reference
SC 8/119/5925
Date
[? 1428]
Description
Petitioners
Joan Kele (Keele), widow.
Name(s)
Kele (Keele), Joan
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Kele requests assistance in recovering her lands from the Prior of Markby. Her father gave the charters to his lands to the Prior, to be given to his heirs, but the Prior has refused to return them to her.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] Delivered to the Duke of Gloucester, 5 February.
Places mentioned
Markby, Lincolnshire.
People mentioned
Michael Kele (Keele), father of the petitioner
Prior of Markby
[Humphrey of Lancaster], Duke of Gloucester.
Note
From the endorsement referring to the Duke of Gloucester, this petition presumably dates to either the minority of Henry VI, or possibly to a parliament of Henry V, held in the king's absence. Dated to? 1428 on the guard, with reference to SC 8/119/5926. However, many petitions from this period bear such endorsements, and although 1428 is possible, there were other parliaments of this period sitting in February.
