Description
Petitioners
Poor burgesses of Ilchester.

Nature of request
The burgesses seek remedy in their dispute over the removal of the county court. They state that the court was held at Ilchester by royal charter, but that it was removed to Somerton (now held by the Countess of Kent), to the great poverty of the people of Ilchester and to the king, since they are no longer able to pay their fee farm due to their poverty. They petitioned in the time of the king's father (Edward II), but the king's uncle, the Earl of Kent, overturned the judgement.
