Nature of request
Nanfan requests that the agreements made with him concerning the governorship of the Channel Islands be kept, and that he receive the payments he is owed. He states that the islands are in great poverty due to invasions, that he has not been paid his salary for part of his time in office, and that the customers of Dartmouth and Exeter have not handed over sums due to the islands. He has also personally had to pay £1000 to the captains of Cherbourg and St Sauveur to safeguard the lives of hostages held by them.
Nature of endorsement
Memorandum that on 5 March 32 Henry VI (1454), the king, by the advice and assent of the lords spiritual and temporal in Parliament, agreed that the appointments and covenants made between the king and John Nanfan, esquire, for the custody and governance of Jersey and Guernsey be observed and kept according to the tenor of the letters made under the Great and Privy seals, and that writs of execution and other warrants be made upon them.

The endorsement is dated 5 March 1454, and was presumably presented to the final session of the 1453-4 Reading/Westminster Parliament. Nanfan served as Governor from 1452-7, and again 1460-1.
