Nature of request
The people of Jersey recount how a large French fleet had arrived on Jersey, demanding their surrender, but when they refused, they attacked and burnt houses until driven off. Part of the fleet went to Guernsey, while the rest returned to Normandy, and then sailed to La Rochelle and elsewhere to load with wine. They therefore request that a fleet be sent to intercept the French ships in Poitou, and also to re-take the castle of Cornet on Guernsey, which was lightly defended. They also ask that they bring money to pay and provision the garrison.
