Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/118/5871
Date
[c. 1442]
Description
Petitioners
Robert Boutil, Prior of St John of Jerusalem in England.
Name(s)
Boutil, Robert
Addressees
Commons.
Occupation
Prior of St John of Jerusalem in England
Nature of request
The Prior asks that he and his successors be acquitted of all outstanding and future rent due for two forges, which once stood in Fleet Street in London. The forges were destroyed during the Peasants' Revolt and not re-built, but the sheriffs of London are again being charged with it in their account. He asks that the rent be cancelled, and the king take the land and do with it as he sees fit.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] Let it be sent to the Lords.[on dorse] Let them be respited until the next Parliament.
Places mentioned
Fleet Street, London.
People mentioned
Richard II, King of England
sheriffs of London.
Note
The rent and arrears were cancelled on 4 December 1445 (CPR 1441-6, p.447), during the penultimate session of the 1445-6 parliament. This would suggest this petition was presented to the previous parliament, held in January-March 1442. Other petitions have been identified which seem to date from the preceding parliament, held in 1439-40 (SC 8/27/1322-3).
