Nature of request
Due to the great losses suffered by many people as a result of jurors making false oaths in assizes, the king is asked to ordain new regulations regarding jurors and sheriffs. In every writ of attaint, the plaintiff should recover his damages, both against the petty jury and against the tenant or the defendant, with regard to any disinheritance, damage and cost. No juror shall be accepted unless they have 100s a year of free tenement or land in the respective county, or annual profits to the same value. Any sheriff or official of a franchise returning unqualified people shall be fined 100s for each such person, and anyone shall have power to sue to convict sheriffs and bailiffs acting contrary to this ordinance, receiving half the fine for their trouble.
