Nature of request
[This document is badly damaged and stained]Jonestone requests the appointment of someone to attend the court of France in his place, to ensure various processes pending there against the king of England regarding issues in Gascony do not default. Jonestone states that he was to be replaced in his duties by Piers, but Piers has not yet arrived, and thus Jonestone reluctantly offers to act if required, and if a new commission is issued.

Note
Jonestone was active as keeper of the processes in the court of France for many years. Piers was appointed as successor to Jonestone as keeper of processes in the court of France on 6 June 1335 (C 47/30/4/28), and this document was presumably presented soon afterwards.
