Nature of request
[This petition is damaged and incomplete.]John, Earl of Huntingdon (or others on his behalf) requests compensation for lands resumed into the king's hands as parcels of the Duchy of Cornwall. These lands were amongst others granted to his father to sustain his new earldom, and were held by his mother in dower after his father's execution, but have now been resumed.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] Let it be sent to the Lords.[on dorse] Response contained in the attached schedule.

Bristol
Nottingham, [Nottinghamshire]

Winkleigh, [Devon]

People mentioned
Richard II, King of England
John de Holand, Earl of Huntingdon, father of the petitioner
Elizabeth [de Holand, Countess of Huntingdon], wife of John de Holand
Edward III, King of England
Edward [of Woodstock, Prince of Wales], Duke of Cornwall
Richard [Holand], son of John Holand, brother of the petitioner.
Note
This is clearly a longer version of the petition at SC 8/117/5839, containing far more background details of the original grant and the descent of the family. Although clearly in favour of the Earl of Huntingdon, the text of the resultant grant (SC 8/117/5841) suggests that this petition may represent intervention by the Commons (unfortunately the document is incomplete, and the relevant part of the text is now missing). As with SC 8/117/5839, it was presumably presented to the 1427-8 Parliament, and has the same damage pattern as many documents from that parliament.
