Description
Petitioners
Prioress and convent of Hampole.
Addressees
Commons.
Nature of request
The Prioress requests a writ of summons against Pilkington and his accomplices, who she claims invaded their house on 29 April 1450, abducted Elizabeth Clarell, and attacked and injured the Prioress and a number of the nuns and other women living there. She states that this danger has dissuaded other women from joining her house or other such nunneries. She asks that the sheriff be ordered to make a proclamation at Doncaster, summoning the attackers to appear before the king on 20 June next, and that all who do not appear be held convicted of the crime.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] Let it be sent to the Lords. This bill is thought reasonable.[on dorse] The king wishes it be done as desired.

Note
The attack recounted took place on 29 April 1450, and the proclamation was to be made by '20 June next'. Given that Parliament was in session at the time, and it would be three years before another was held, it would appear most likely that the petition was presented soon after the attack, to the final session of the 1449-50 Parliament.
