Reference
SC 8/117/5820
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Paulyn de Hauvill.
Name(s)
de Hauvill, Paulyn
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Hauvill requests the restitution of his inheritance in the manor of Weston, lately held by Amice de Hauvill, now that he has achieved full age. It was held by Doddyngeseles and Segrave during his minority, but was then taken into the king's hands on Segrave's death. He also seeks compensation for the great waste and destruction suffered by the lands whilst in the hands of the king.
Nature of endorsement
Examine the rolls of chancery for the inquisitions held and returned after the death of Nicholas de Segrave, or otherwise returned concerning the tenements mentioned in this petition, and then do what seems right. If nothing was returned, order the escheator that he should certify to the king as to the manner of his taking and holding the said tenements, and when this has been received, let justice be done in the chancery.Paulinus de Howile.
Places mentioned
Weston, [Northamptonshire].
People mentioned
Amice de Hauvyll (Hauvill)
John de Doddyngeseles (Oddingseles, Doddingeseles)
Nicholas de Segrave
Note
The minority period is said to have ended at Martinmas (11 November) 1320, but this is incorrectly given here as the time of Segrave's death, which actually occurred on 25 November 1321. The petition presumably dates from some time after this.
