Nature of request
The merchants present a list of grievances brought by envoys from the towns of the Hanse, which they were ordered to present to this parliament.1) They request restitution of undue customs charges made upon them against their privileges.2) They request restitution for an attack the previous year on one of their ships from Gdansk off the coast of Southampton.3) Eight years ago a ship in Boston had been wrongfully seized by the customs officials, who were claiming customs payments which had already been paid.4) They request remedy for an attack on a Prussian ship six years before in Boston.5) They request restitution for Hallenbergh, whose ship and its cargo of wine had been requisitioned by the men of the Duke of Lancaster.6) They request restitution for John Lonenborgh of Gdansk, who had been attacked in Colchester six years previously.
