Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/116/5776
Date
[1379-1380]
Description
Petitioners
Robert Hales, Prior of St John of Jerusalem in England.
Name(s)
Hales, Robert
Addressees
King and Council.
Occupation
Prior of St John of Jerusalem in England
Nature of request
The Prior of St John of Jerusalem requests a writ of procedendo be issued to allow him to recover two manors from Darcy. He states that Darcy's deed claiming that his predecessor Archer granted the manors to Edward III, who then granted the manors to his own ancestors, was not a true deed, and that no details of it have been found in the records. His case should therefore be allowed to proceed, and he should be allowed to reclaim the property.
Nature of endorsement
This bill is answered elsewhere on the roll for this parliament.
Places mentioned
Temple Newsam, [West Riding of] Yorkshire
Temple Hirst, [West Riding of] Yorkshire.
People mentioned
Philip Darcy, [Lord Darcy]
[Edward III], King of England
John Darcy
Thomas Archer, [former Prior of St John of Jerusalem in England].
Note
Clearly forms part of the process described on the parliament roll for 1379-80 (Rot. Parl. III, pp.78-9). It presumably post-dates the order to the sheriff to have Darcy before the king, issued on 26 March 1379, and probably pre-dates the exemplification of the charter made on 1 March 1380.
