Reference
SC 8/116/5775
Date
1422
Description
Petitioners
Not specified.
Addressees
Lords in Parliament.
Nature of request
It is requested that Queen Catherine be granted dower property in England to the value agreed in the peace treaty lately made between Henry V and Charles VI of France (the Treaty of Troyes).
Nature of endorsement
The response to this petition appears in the rolls of the Parliament held on the Monday before the feast of St Martin in the first year of the reign of King Henry VI (1422).
People mentioned
Henry [V], King of England
Charles [VI], King of France
Catherine [de Valois], Queen of England
Isabella [of Bavaria], Queen of France.
Note
Dated on the dorse to the first Parliament of Henry VI, and, as it claims, seems to correspond with a long entry about this matter on the parliament roll. No petitioner is specified, and although clearly concerned with Queen Catherine's dower, it was almost certainly presented on her behalf, rather than by her in person. The problem arose because the traditional estates of the Queens of England were still held by Henry IV's widow, Joan of Navarre.
