Description
Petitioners
John Harecourt (Harcourt).
Name(s)
Harecourt (Harcourt), John
Nature of request
Harecourt lists three errors in the judgement made against him.1) Firstly he claims that he was accused of breaking into the house of Stephen [Wyvyld] and taking away goods worth £20. However, the judgement was based on a dispute over the ownership of the house and goods in question, although it was never alleged that the place was ever the property of Stephen and not John, or that the goods belonged to Stephen.2) It is an error in this that whereas the parties had their day in the octave of Hilary, it is not recorded that the parties appeared.3) It is an error in this that it is not in the record that William Rikhull and William Brynchele took an oath on the Monday before the feast of St Peter in Cathedra.

Note
The petition to which this document was attached (SC 8/116/5768A) mentions Richard II, suggesting that both documents date either to his reign or, perhaps more likely, to that of one of his immediate successors. The handwriting is late-fourteenth or early fifteenth century in date.
