SC 8/116/5758
Date
[1376]
Description
Petitioners
Robert Haulay (Hauley).
Name(s)
Haulay (Hauley), Robert
Addressees
King and Lords of Parliament.
Nature of request
Haulay asks for the completion of a court case in order that he may continue serving the king overseas. He states that had entered into various covenants with Chamberlein, who in turn was involved in a court case on behalf of the Chaundos heirs and Clerk. Even though the case does not involve Haulay, he has become embroiled in it, to his great loss, and requests an end to proceedings and restitution of his damages.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Winchester, [Hampshire]
People mentioned
Chaundos heirs
Peter Clerc (Clerk)
Richard Chamberlein (Chamberlain)
[Edward of Woodstock], Prince [of Wales]
Note
From the context appears to date from between the death of the Black Prince and the death of Edward III, confirmed by its appearance on a fragmentary list of petitions from the 1376 parliament (C 49/43/10). Whether Haulay is the same man involved in the petitions at SC 8/18/893-6 and SC 8/116/5787 is unclear, but this seems likely.
