Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/115/5742
Date
[c. 1332-c. 1360]
Description
Petitioners
Collectors of the moiety of the tenth and fifteenth in Hertfordshire.
Addressees
Council.
Occupation
Collectors of the moiety of the tenth and fifteenth in Hertfordshire
Nature of request
The collectors seek a writ to the Treasurer and Chamberlain granting them an allowance against their account. They have been unable to collect certain sums from individuals absent on military service in France, and should have an allowance as specified in their commission.
Nature of endorsement
Let a writ be sent to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer regarding the matters contained in this petition, ordering them to view the commission, and if they find it to be true they should make allowance for the said sum.
Places mentioned
Hertfordshire
France.
Note
The tax referred to in the petition may refer to a number of the subsidies collected for Edward III's wars after 1332; a date range of 1332-1360 is suggested here, given that the hand is unlikely to be later than 1360; given that the petition is addressed to the council it is likely to be from one of the periods within this date range when Edward III was absent from the realm.
