SC 8/115/5735
Date
[1334]
Description
Petitioners
Adam Horsho, cousin and heir of Thomas Horesho
Name(s)
Horsho, Adam
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Horsho requests the restoration to him of a tenement on the Ness in Berwick-upon-Tweed (situated between those formerly held by Walter de Forgrund and the Prioress of Eccles). The tenement is in the King's hands on account of the war [the reason for this, a reference to the forfeiture of Steven Fourbour, an adherent of Robert Bruce, is deleted].
Nature of endorsement
Thomas Horesho, uncle of Adam, was seised in this tenement in the time of Alexander, King of Scotland. He was ousted during the war by the king's grandfather, and the tenement was granted to Henry de Deen. It was then re-captured by Robert Bruce, who gave it to John de Loudon, who in turn gave it to Steven Fourbour, but is now in the king's hands. Adam is one of the heirs of Thomas, and has always been faithful to the king. He should have a writ to the sheriff of Berwick to deliver the tenement to him, if it is in the king's hands for this reason and no other, to hold as it was previously held, saving the rights of the king and anyone else.
