Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/115/5711
Date
[c. 1300-c. 1320]
Description
Petitioners
David Gethin, Griffith ap David, Thloelin (Llewelyn) ap David and Howell David.
Name(s)
Gethin; ap David; ap David; David, David; Griffith; Thloelin (Llewelyn); Howell
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that they stood surety for Phelipp for the payment of £50 to the king at Michaelmas last, of which they have paid £20 10s. They ask that they be allowed to pay the remainder over the next four years, since they have been greatly impoverished by the sickness of their animals. They will also find alternative pledges, since the principal debtor is in the king's prison in Caernarfon castle for this debt.
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the Council that the petition should be allowed if they pay the debt at three terms beginning at Michaelmas next.
Places mentioned
Cantreberfraw (Aberffraw cantref), [Anglesey, Wales]
Anglesey, [Wales]
North Wales
Caernarfon, [Caernarfonshire, Wales].
People mentioned
William ap Phelipp (Philip), former bailiff of Aberffraw cantref.
Note
Probably dates from c.1300-1320. A David Gethin appears as the taxer of Aberffraw in c.1293 (E 179/242/49), and some of the people appearing in an extent of 1339 (C 145/137/17; CIM 1307-49, no. 1647) may be the sons of people mentioned here. Rees' transcription is partial (Petitions Relating to Wales, pp. 187-8), and the dating would seem incorrect.
