Nature of request
The petitioners state that a certain John Pylston had petitioned the king, asking that the three counties of North Wales should be made subject to the same laws as the rest of England, if the people so wish. They say that the people know nothing of this, and ask that the petition be stayed until they can consider this, and that Pakington be ordered to ask the views of local people on his next visit. They also state that the people of the three counties are required to defend the coast, but are too poor and cannot bear any taxes beyond those for which they were traditionally liable.
