Nature of request
The petitioner states that Griffith ap Nicholas held him in prison in Carmarthen, despite orders from the king to have him before the king's council on 9 July last past, and that Griffith ap Nicholas and his relatives have made disturbance and caused great injuries to the king's subjects in South Wales. He asks that Griffith ap Nicholas be ordered to deliver him to the mayor of [Hereford] before 12 January next, under penalty of losing all his offices in Wales and the Marches, the castles being returned to the keeping of the Duke of York.

(on face) To be sent to the Lords(on dorse) The king grants this petition in the manner and form desired provided that proclamation is made before the said 12 January in Herefordshire.

Dated on the guard to?1455 and by Rees, Petitions Relating to Wales, to 1455-7, to the period when Richard of York was keeper of the castles mentioned in the petition. The petition is damaged and incomplete, but Rees' dating seems secure.
