[Petition in 7 parts].1) That people of the council be assigned to examine the perils, doubts and causes for which Piers has not dared to come and receive the charges of office to which he was assigned by writ, especially those concerning Scotland and Gascony.2) That it is enquired of the defences and remedy lately ordained and used by the king's grandfather and his councillors and envoys were defended from the same perils.3) To examine the reasons why the defences and remedies were delayed all the time of the king's father whereby part of the possession of the land of Scotland and of many lands in Gascony, Agenais and Santonge and elsewhere were ruined to the king's father.4) To examine the articles of peace and accord made between the king's ancestors and the ancestors of the king of France by which they lost much of their heritage by ordinances and customs of the court of France.5) To examine the articles of peace and accord not accomplished and the other causes against the king's father in the 1 year of his reign by the proctor of the king of France, by virtue of which and of other reasons the king's father was put in the necessity of granting to Bruce a truce of six years and more, and the enemy by their deceits disseised the king and his nobles of England of all their castles, cities and vills in Scotland except Berewick, Bothwell, Stirling and other places against the form of the truce.6) To certify of the perils, doubts and reasons and articles, and of the remedies, and that it be necessary to put upon this to your profit and honour before the response is made to the envoys of the pope or those of the king of France in the business concerning his lordship and the right of the king's . . . in the lands.7) To examine the reasons by which Joneston is not of power and not dare to come to attend to the suit and keeping of the process until the coming of John Piers, and if . . .
