Nature of request
The abbot of Gloucester requests letters to the chamberlain to make writs out of Chancery commanding the justices to proceed in the suit that he has against the abbot of Vale Royal for the advowson of the church of St Paterne in Llanbadarn Fawr as the suit has been much delayed as the abbot of Vale Royal claims to have it by gift of the late Prince of Wales by licence of Edward III and the justices do not wish to proceed in the suit.1)

The king wishes, by the assent of the lords in parliament that the process mentioned by this petition be continued in its current state to the next parliament.2) At the next parliament at Cambridge in the week of the Nativity of Our Lady 12 Richard II it was agreed by the king and lords in parliament that the same process be continued in its current state to the next parliament or the one following.

The petition appears to date to the parliament held at Westminster in February 1388 as the second response makes it clear that the petition was continued to the Cambridge parliament, and therefore this petition must have been presented to the preceding one.
