Reference
SC 8/113/5627
Date
[c. 1375-c. 1400]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas Gisors of London.
Name(s)
Gisors, Thomas
Addressees
King, prelates and lords in the present parliament.
Nature of request
Gisors requests remedy as his tenements and rents in London which were wrongly extended and delivered to Coleshalle until a certain debt was paid, and which he has had for eight years, as he and his family have nothing to live on and are impoverished and cannot have justice because of Coleshalle's maintenance and extortions.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be committed to the council, and there having called the parties and heard their arguments, let justice be done as reason and right demand.
Places mentioned
London.
People mentioned
John Colshalle (Coleshall).
Note
The petition is speculatively dated to? 1390 on the guard, though there is no clear evidence to support this dating. Another petition on the same matter by the same petitioner and an apparent counter petition are dated on their guards to? 1385 and? 1378-9 respectively (SC 8/113/5617; SC 8/113/5623). Assuming that these dates are roughly correct, and given the hands and form of the petitions, they are here dated more impressionistically to the last quarter of the fourteenth century.
