Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/113/5623
Date
[c. 1375-c. 1400]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas Grede of Bristol.
Name(s)
Grede, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Grede requests that those who Gysors enfeoffed with his lands be summoned before the king at the present parliament to answer to him concerning the debt that Gysors owes to him, and that a statute be made in parliament that the feoffees pay the sum due or that the land be sold to make payment, and that the statute be made in general, as Gysors enfeoffed his land to avoid paying the debt.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Bristol.
People mentioned
Thomas Gysors (Gisors).
Note
The petition is speculatively dated to? 1378-9 on the guard, though there is no clear evidence to support this dating. The apparent counter petitions are dated on their guards to? 1385 and? c. 1390 respectively (SC 8/113/5617; SC 8/113/5627). Assuming that these dates are roughly correct, and given the hands and form of the petitions, they are here dated more impressionistically to the last quarter of the fourteenth century.
