Date
[c. 1375-c. 1400]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas Gysors (Gisors) of London.
Name(s)
Gysors (Gisors), Thomas
Addressees
Earl of Arundel in the present parliament.
Nature of request
Gysors requests remedy and restitution of his tenements and rents in London which were wrongly extended to Coleshall until a certain debt was paid, as he and his family have nothing to live on, and he further requests that his creditors be barred.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
London
Westminster.
People mentioned
[Richard Fitz Alan], Earl of Arundel
John Coleshall, late apprentice of the petitioner
Nicholas Brembre
Henry Vaverne
John Philepot (Philipot).
Note
The petition is speculatively dated to? 1385 on the guard, though there is no clear evidence to support this dating. Another petition on the same matter by the same petitioner and an apparent counter petition are dated on their guards to? 1378-? 1379 and? c. 1390 respectively (SC 8/113/5623; SC 8/113/5627). Assuming that these dates are roughly correct, and given the hands and form of the petitions, they are here dated more impressionistically to the last quarter of the fourteenth century.
