Reference
SC 8/113/5616
Date
[1397]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses, commons and tenants of Great Yarmouth.
Addressees
King and council in the present parliament.
Nature of request
The burgesses, commons and tenants of Great Yarmouth request remedy and relief from the great charges of the tenths and fifteenths as the port is partly obstructed so that fewer ships come there and many of the houses of the town are vacant, and the town will be ruined without relief.
Nature of endorsement
[On face].To the Lords.[On dorse, none].
Places mentioned
Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
Note
Printed in Rot. Parl. Vol III, pp.447a-b, where this petition, and the rest of the file of which it once formed part, is assigned to the Parliament of 1 Henry IV. However, this dating has been shown to be incorrect; other petitions in the file can be securely dated to the 1397 Parliament, thus also dating this petition to that parliament.
