Reference
SC 8/112/5577
Date
[c. 1319]
Description
Petitioners
Henry Fitz Hugh.
Name(s)
Fitz Hugh, Henry
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[The petition is badly damaged, missing its entire right-hand side.]Fitz Hugh requests allowance for the redress of [Barnard Castle], which he was ordered by the king to put in repair, an enquiry held into the matter finding for him.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by writ of Chancery to the treasurer and barons that when they have viewed the orders of the king previously sent to them on this matter, and the inquisition taken and returned before them, they are to make allowance of the contents of the petition to the petitioner just as is right.
Places mentioned
Barnard Castle, [County Durham].
People mentioned
Richard de Bermyngham (Bermingham)
Robert de Beverle (Beverley).
Note
The petition makes reference to events on 24 September 9 Edward II (1315), and Fitz Hugh was ordered to deliver Barnard Castle on 27 September 1319 (CFR 1319-27, p.5). Although it is not clear it would seem likely that the petition postdates the surrender of the castle.
