[Petition in 4 parts].1) The abbot requests remedy as Barton has sued a writ of arrest against him and recovered a sum in Chancery.2) The abbot requests remedy as the people of Winchelsea were ordered to make ditches around their town and took land valued at 60s. of rent per annum as appears by an inquest of the keeper of the Cinque Ports returned into Chancery.3) The abbot requests that they be granted that they are able to make general attorneys to sue and defend the abbey's interests as the abbot cannot reside in England.4) The abbot requests that a debt owed by them be allowed against a debt owed to them for money lent by the abbot's predecessor to the king's grandfather and that the sheriff of Sussex be ordered to cease his demands on the abbot.

The petition dates to 1329 as the order for the arrest of the abbot's goods was revoked and the sheriff of Sussex ordered to restore the goods of the abbot or their value on 18 February 1329 (CCR 1327-30, pp.429-30). CCR 1327-30 p.286, dated 18 May 1328, is in response to the earlier SC 8/258/12888.
