Date
[c. 1284]
Description
Petitioners
Matilda de Fulham, widow of Edmund son and heir of Robert of Fulham.
Name(s)
de Fulham, Matilda
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Fulham requests that the false debt demanded of her in the Exchequer be extinguished and that the poor people be able to live in peace as Henry III granted, at his son's request, the goods and chattels of Saulot, who had been killed, to Aaron amounting to 600 marks of goods and debts, but Seaton charged Robert for the sum and the same is now demanded from her following the eyre held at Cambridge.
Nature of endorsement
She should have a writ of Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they examine the rolls and other documents touching this business, and let justice be done to her namely both of the Jews and of the justices.
Places mentioned
Cambridgeshire
Essex
La Croyrois [unidentified].
People mentioned
Edmund [de Fulham], son and heir of Robert de Fulham
Robert de Fulham
Aaron son of Vyves, Jew of Edmund earl of Leicester
Edmund [Crouchback, Earl of Leicester]
Saulot son of Samuel the Jew
Master Roger Seyton (Seaton), Justice in Eyre.
Note
The petition has been dated rather speculatively to c. 1284 based on an entry in the close rolls relating to action taken against Robert de Fulham for debts owed to the king that he had not properly acquitted (CCR 1279-88, p.276). However, this reference seems to have no direct relevance to the petition.
