Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/111/5536
Date
[c. 1326]
Description
Petitioners
Geoffrey Fitz Waryn (Fitz Warren).
Name(s)
Fitz Waryn (Fitz Warren), Geoffrey
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Fitz Waryn requests remedy and a commission of oyer and terminer upon the felony committed by Wedone and others against him, and that the false alliance of Wedone and others be destroyed. Fitz Waryn was one of those who indicted Wedone in an inquisition into the death of Beauchamp, and Wedone by the maintenance of Despenser was pardoned, and he and others came and beat Fitz Waryn and burnt his house. He has been unable to prosecute his suit because of Despenser and Baldock's maintenance.
Nature of endorsement
At the common law.
Places mentioned
Bushey, Hertfordshire.
People mentioned
Ralph de Wedone
[...] Aygnel
Roger du Brok
Alice de Beauchamp
Hugh Despenser, the son
Master Robert Baldok [Baldock].
Note
The petition is unusual as it seems to be a complaint against Despenser and Baldock before their fall. It seems likely that this is later in the period of 1322-1326 as the events seem to have been committed over some time. A date of c. 1326 has been opted for.
