Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/111/5514
Date
[c. 1378-c. 1379]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Felton.
Name(s)
de Felton, Thomas
Addressees
Knights, citizens and burgesses being the commons of the present parliament.
Nature of request
[The petition has suffered some damage to its right-hand portion, making it difficult to recover the full sense of the petition]. Felton requests aid so that he can return to the king's service as he has been imprisoned by the enemy and has made an agreement for finance. . .as without aid he will remain in prison and will be lost.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The petition is clearly early in the reign of Richard II as the petition refers to Edward III and the Black Prince. As patent roll entries reveal that Felton was dead by 1381, the petition cannot be later than then. It is likely that the events referred to in the petition are to Felton's capture by the French in late 1377 so that a date of 1378-1379 seems appropriate.
