Note (Additional information about the record)
- The petition may well date to 1371 as it refers to John Cavendish as justice of the Bench. Cavendish was appointed a justice of Common Pleas in 1371, and was soon after made chief justice of King's Bench in 1372 (Sainty, The Judges of England, pp.8, 66). One might expect Cavendish to be noted as chief justice if he had held the office at the time of the petition.
