Note
The petition must date from the episcopate of Walter Stapledon (1308-26); most of the events it describes had taken place in the reign of Edward I, but the mention of Edward's wife Queen Margaret without mention of her decease may suggest that the petition dates before 1318, and Matthew de Boylewe, Dean of St Buryan, was replaced in that office in 1318 (CPR 1317-1321 p 140). A petition by the dean and canons of St Buryan dating to c. 1322 refers to the case forming the first part of this petition beginning in 8 Edw. II, so it seems likely that this petition may date to 1314-1315 (SC 8/91/4528).
